# Record a tab or take a screenshot

> Choose the right capture method, prepare a browser reproduction, and publish a clear video or screenshot with Tekma.

Use a video when the order of actions matters. Use a screenshot when the problem is visible in a single state, such as a layout issue or an incorrect message.

## Record a tab

1. Open the page you want to capture.
2. Open the connected Tekma extension and choose **Record tab**.
3. Approve any browser permission prompt and confirm the intended recording source.
4. Reproduce the problem at a pace another person can follow.
5. Stop the recording, review it, and publish it.

The extension targets 1080p capture. Actual dimensions depend on the source and browser. Recordings are limited to 15 minutes; split longer investigations into separate, focused captures.

If you enable microphone recording, explain what you expect as you go. Speech is optional: silent recordings can still receive visual chapters.

## Take a screenshot

Choose **Screenshot** in the extension when you have the relevant page state ready. Review the image before publishing. A screenshot has no spoken transcript or video timeline.

## Make a reproduction easy to understand

* Start immediately before the relevant action.
* Keep the failing element visible and avoid unnecessary tab changes.
* Pause briefly on unexpected results so the viewer can read them.
* Use a title that identifies the affected feature.
* Add expected behavior and relevant prerequisites in a comment.

## What happens after publishing?

The original video becomes playable while streaming versions and automatic navigation are processed. Chapters describe the recording's sections. A transcript is generated when speech is present. Processing availability and privacy controls still apply.

Read [playback and chapters](/recording/playback) and [privacy](/recording/privacy) before sharing externally.
