Choose the smallest capture that proves the problem. Video shows the sequence; a screenshot preserves one state; Instant Replay preserves a bounded DOM interaction. A capture can be reviewed before it is published.

Record a browser tab

Open the extension and choose Record tab. Before starting, choose whether to include the microphone; tab audio and shared audio follow the browser’s picker. A three-second countdown begins the capture. Keep the affected page visible, then use Pause, Resume, and Stop after the result is readable. Tab recordings target up to 1080p and are limited to 15 minutes. The extension collects supported browser diagnostics while it records. Input values are not stored as action text, and privacy rules can redact diagnostic data. Video pixels and audio still need your review.

Record a desktop window or screen

Use Record screen/window when the problem crosses browser windows or includes a native app. The browser’s screen picker controls which window or screen is shared. Keep notifications and unrelated windows hidden. The optional Show recording controls dock and temporary ink are included in the video, so hide them when they are not part of the evidence. Take a screenshot

Choose Screenshot when one state explains the issue. Extension screenshots can include console, network, actions, navigation and environment diagnostics collected at capture time, but have no video timeline or transcript. The extension can apply the configured visual masking and diagnostic privacy rules. An imported image keeps its source pixels and metadata and has no Tekma-collected diagnostics.

During and after capture

Keep one capture focused on one behavior. Pause at the unexpected result and add a description with prerequisites and expected behavior. After publishing, the original media can be available while chapters, transcripts and streaming variants process. A failed upload or processing job can expose a retry action; keep any local recovery artifact until the capture is ready.

Limits to plan around

  • Extension video recordings are limited to 15 minutes. Split a longer investigation into focused captures.
  • A capture follows the selected source. Opening an unrelated tab or window later does not automatically add it.
  • Imported media does not invent console, network or browser-action evidence. Extension screenshots can include diagnostics collected during the screenshot operation.
  • CLI recordings do not provide the extension’s element-level visual redaction. Use CLI privacy guidance for that path.
